Three ProQuest Resources Named Outstanding Academic Titles by Choice
ABI/INFORM, African Writers Series, and Literature Online with MLA Receive Top Honours
Cambridge, UK, 29th January, 2007 -- Three research solutions from ProQuest Information and Learning have been named Outstanding Academic Titles for 2006 by Choice magazine, a publication of the American Library Association. The recipients, ABI/INFORM Complete and ABI/INFORM Archive, African Writers Series, and Literature Online with MLA, were each praised as “highly recommended” by Choice.

“It is especially meaningful to have these resources recognized as the best of the best by Choice, which has long been a leading voice in the academic and research community,” said David “Skip” Prichard, president of ProQuest Information and Learning. “I am pleased that our efforts are not only delighting researchers but also earning high praise from the industry and our peers. This distinction gives us great momentum to continue delivering products that exceed the expectations of libraries and researchers in 2007.”

According to Choice magazine, this year's Outstanding Academic Title list includes 597 print products and 43 electronic resources chosen by the Choice editorial staff from among the 6,816 titles reviewed by Choice during the past year. These outstanding works have been selected for their excellence in scholarship and presentation, the significance of their contribution to the field, and their value as important – often the first treatment of their subject.

The following are highlights from the Choice reviews:

ABI/INFORM Complete and ABI/INFORM Archive

“With the international coverage available in ABI/INFORM Global and the historical information in ABI/INFORM Archive, ABI/INFORM Complete is uniquely positioned as the most comprehensive combination business/economics database on the market today.” – L. Hickey, Sam Houston State University

African Writers Series

“Indexing essential works from the lauded Heinemann's ‘African Writers Series,’ this database purports to cover the canon of 20th-century African literature, including novels, short stories, poetry, drama, and essays…. This is an extremely valuable and usable tool providing ready access to a rich world of literature.” -- M. P. Tosko, University of Akron

Literature Online with MLA

“The third edition of Literature Online is a powerful portal for researching English and American literature, combining searchable full-text poetry, drama, and prose with the two leading indexes of literary criticism, 168 full-text journals, and numerous other features…. More than an index of criticism, Literature Online offers 350,000 searchable works of poetry, drama, and prose.... Literature Online succeeds impressively at integrating a wide range of literary information.” – W. L. Svitavsky, Rollins College
