The eighth and final release of DKV marks the fulfilment of a long-standing partnership with Deutscher Klassiker Verlag Frankfurt am Main . The extensive and very successful collaboration has resulted in the creation of a database which is highly regarded in Germany and throughout the world as the premier collection of literary and non-literary German writing.
The eighth release of DKV opens new possibilities for researching German literature, language and thought. It focusses on works of philosophy, drama, novels, religion and psychology in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
The final release will contain 18 volumes by the authors E. T. A. Hoffmann, Ludwig Tieck, Johann Gottlieb Fichte, Friedrich Schleiermacher, Bettine von Arnim, Mechthild von Magdeburg and two volumes of Prosalancelot "Lancelot und der Gral.”
Hoffmann's works make up six volumes and Tieck's works five volumes of this release. The main emphasis is on literature from the late sixteenth to the seventeenth century by these authors. Furthermore this release covers philosophical texts by Schleiermacher and Fichte (two volumes) from the same era.
Hoffmann's works include his famous "Lebens-Ansichten des Katers Murr" as well as diaries, letters and much more. Meanwhile, Tieck's work include "Phantasus" as well as poetry and other literary works.
The letter volume by Bettine von Arnim, the volume by Mechthild von Magdeburg and the Lancelot volumes are additions to this release which have only recently been published as books.
The Mechthild von Magdeburg volume "Das fließende Licht der Gottheit" and "Lancelot und der Gral I + II" are medieval literature which include the original text and a translation.
The Digitale Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker offers users the ability to cross-search an extensive collection.
All the Bibliothek Deutscher Klassiker texts have been newly edited by leading international scholars and are accompanied by extensive commentaries that reflect the most recent research. The database holds 31 single-author editions (Werkausgaben), including writers such as Wolfram von Eschenbach, Kleist and Kant and all 16 collections (Sammelwerke) that integrate the authors' works into their cultural background.
