NEW! International Bibliography of Art
The definitive resource for scholarly literature on western art - Available exclusively from ProQuest
In a new agreement between ProQuest and the Getty Research Institute (GRI), ProQuest has taken over as publisher of the International Bibliography of Art, the successor to the Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA). This agreement provides a secure future for a resource considered central to the study of art history, and assures its continuing development and accessibility to researchers around the world.
ProQuest will distribute the most recent content that was created by the GRI (from the years 2008 through 2009), and will build on this by adding new index records going forward. ProQuest will retain the editorial policies which have made this bibliography one of the most trusted and frequently consulted sources in the field, and will use the GRI’s own thesaurus and authority files. Over time, ProQuest also intends to expand coverage of art from Asia, Latin America and Africa in response to requests from art librarians and researchers.
Ideal for academic libraries, specialist art libraries and museums, the International Bibliography of Art provides authoritative coverage of current scholarship. Its scope encompasses:
European art from late antiquity to the present, American art from the colonial era to the present, and global art since 1945
Visual arts in all media: painting, sculpture, drawing, video, installations, new media, decorative and applied arts, museum studies and conservation, archaeology, folk art and material culture, classical studies, antiques, architectural history
A broad international range, with around 60% of content from non-English-language publications
At least 500 core journals will be covered, plus detailed coverage of monographs, essay collections, conference proceedings and exhibition catalogues.
Available now on the CSA Illumina platform, with:
COMING SOON! The Vogue Archive
ProQuest is pleased to announce that the entire back file of Vogue (U.S. edition) is to be made available on the new ProQuest platform. The Vogue archive is a treasure-chest of the work of the greatest designers, photographers, stylists and illustrators of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and a unique record of American and international popular culture. The complete archive runs from 1892 to the present, with every issue digitised in high-resolution colour scans, including every page, cover, advertisement and fold-out. Almost half a million pages of extraordinarily image-rich material will be available online for the first time.
In a unique partnership with Condé Nast, indexing will be added to individual images within the magazine, allowing users to find relevant images instantly. Instead of browsing through print copies of Vogue, students and researchers will be able to search for images by garment type, designer, fabric and other search fields. The resource will be updated every month to include the current issue of Vogue.
The database will allow fashion design and photography students to find inspirational images, but will also cater for academic study. Fashion marketing students will be able to research the history of a brand identity by, for example, viewing every advertisement for Revlon between specified dates. Researchers in cultural studies and gender studies will be able to explore themes such as body image, gender roles and social tastes from the 1890s to the present.
This exciting project presents a major development in providing online resources for the growing discipline of fashion studies. ProQuest’s Vogue Archive is scheduled for release in December 2010

ProQuest partners with libraries on Early European Books
“LIBER is delighted to be associated with ProQuest’s Early European Books project and with the vision to include all imprints from across the whole of Europe between 1475 and 1700. It is a compelling vision and will result in a magnificent tool for European scholarship. LIBER feel that a viable model has been established to create a high-quality resource with huge benefit to scholars, students and beyond”
Dr Paul Ayris, President of LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries)
ProQuest’s Early English Books Online (EEBO) has been one of the most successful research collections ever produced. It revolutionised Early Modern research across all subject areas. ProQuest is now extending its famous EEBO digitisation program into continental Europe with Early European Books. Full-colour, high-resolution facsimile images of rare and hard-to-access printed sources drawn from the great libraries of continental Europe will be made available to institutions around the world through Early European Books. The high-definition colour images reveal details like illuminated letters, hand-coloured illustrations and handwritten marginalia. In addition, Early European Books will also provide photographs of all interior and exterior bindings, end papers and spines.
