ProQuest is extending its famous Early English Books digitization program into continental Europe, beginning with a pilot project featuring holdings from the Danish Royal Library’s national collection. More than 2,000 15th and 16th century rare and valuable imprints that have never been brought together in one place will be digitized. Included are works that profoundly influenced pan-European intellectual life. Content ranges from the earliest books printed in Denmark through to later works from astronomers and alchemists, Tycho Brahe (1546–1601) and Johannes Kepler (1571–1630).

Following in the footsteps of Early English Books Online, this ambitious new resource provides scholars with extended access to more than 250 years of print culture from across Europe. In order to support researchers and enrich their search experience, Early European Books features:

  • High-resolution color images of all pages, bindings and clasps
  • Sophisticated image viewing, panning and zooming
  • A multilingual interface, and richly detailed metadata
  • Indexing of features, such as illuminated lettering and marginalia
  • Results filtering
  • References to bibliographic sources
  • MARC records
