How to Market your Library in the Digital Age
Divided line

Cambridge, United Kingdom, November 25, 2009 - ProQuest invites Online Information delegates to a presentation on “marketing your library in the digital age”.

Most libraries offer a plethora of digital resources, having invested in top quality educational databases from leading publishers. An equally critical investment for libraries is to develop a marketing strategy to ensure these resources are exploited to their full potential.

A presentation demonstrating marketing your library in the digital age, and a case study of an innovative library marketing strategy will be lead by Jon Anderson at Central Library, Cambridge and Sharlene Tilley, Executive Director of International Marketing at ProQuest. This presentation will take place between 12.30 to 13.30 on Tuesday 1st December in the Pillar Room, Grand Hall, Olympia, followed by a buffet lunch.

Central Library, Cambridge recently opened their doors to the public following a £7.5 million revamp. In their first week they received 17,000 visitors. Jon Anderson will outline the marketing strategy that was employed to achieve such success, as well as the benefits of working with a commercial partner such as ProQuest. He will also outline the development of this innovative library. Extended IT and online learning facilities have been created, as well as a new BFI Mediatheque giving access to archive film footage held by the British Film Institute - the first of its kind in any public library in the country. Computers placed around the building allow users to check out their own books and pay fines. A book sortation system has been installed to make it easy for users to return their borrowed items and also for library staff to get returned items back on the shelves as quickly as possible. Many ProQuest resources are also available to public library users.

ProQuest offers a number of services for libraries, including point of use materials, user guides, training as well as marketing toolkits for marketing a public or an academic library. Sharlene Tilley, Executive Director of International Marketing said, ‘This session at Online Information will review marketing approaches, including that of the successful launch of the Central Library, Cambridge. Librarians can assess the techniques that might work in their own libraries. ProQuest are pleased to partner with libraries to increase awareness of available research resources and we offer adaptable tools to assist libraries in marketing their digital resources; each delegate attending the session on 1st December will receive a set of marketing tools and templates on a ProQuest flash drive.

A buffet lunch will be provided directly after the presentation at 13.00.

This presentation is open to anyone who has pre-registered to attend Online Information. Space is limited, so please RSVP Rebecca.Holmberg@proquest.co.uk as soon as possible should you wish to attend.
