Bahrain Polytechnic selects ProQuest databases as most robust for college students
Divided line

Cambridge, United Kingdom, November 6, 2009 - ProQuest congratulates Bahrain Polytechnic on its first year of operation, following its opening in 2008 by H.H Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince and Chairman of the Economic Development Board. Attracting thousands of applicants at each intake and growing rapidly, Bahrain Polytechnic will be providing instruction in a diverse range of subjects from transport and logistics, through to accounting, marketing, and engineering technology. Following a rigorous tender process, ProQuest was chosen as the preferred aggregator provider. Bahrain Polytechnic selected ProQuest’s biggest aggregated database, ProQuest Central and Middle East Newsstand.

Jackie Hammill, Library Project Coordinator for Bahrain Polytechnic said, ‘Bahrain Polytechnic needed a database that provided full-text articles across the disciplines covered in the degree programmes offered. It was felt ProQuest resources offered this in terms of the breadth and scope of material on offer, as well as hands-on support. We need robust resources to make an impact with students and staff at Bahrain Polytechnic and ProQuest was able to fulfill this requirement.’

ProQuest Central is the largest aggregated full-text database in the market today totaling more than 12,700 periodical titles with over 9,000 of these in full text. ProQuest Central serves as the central resource for researchers at all levels globally and covers diverse subjects including business, science technology and medicine, literature and language, society and culture, the arts, history and healthcare and wellness. It also provides newspaper sources, scholarly and reference information not available in other aggregated resources such as concise business information from over 20,000 global market reports, over 30,000 full text doctoral dissertations and nursing procedure videos. ProQuest Central resides on the award-winning ProQuest® classic platform allowing cross-searching capabilities with other ProQuest databases.

The Middle East Newsstand, provides more than 30 current, full text news sources. Middle East Newsstand news sources originate from the Arab World, Southwest Asia and surrounding countries. Researchers can search the latest news, then compare and contrast perspectives across the region. Several of the sources have been translated from Arabic to English by the publisher. A sample of the titles available in Middle East Newstand include: Aljazeera.net, Dar Al-Hayat, Gulf Daily News, Palestine Chronicle, Le Temps, Sudan Tribune, Times of Oman, and the Yemen Times.   Researchers using Middle East Newsstand can take advantage of the ProQuest interface language features. Users can perform their search in English, French and Arabic.

ProQuest looks forward to working with Bahrain Polytechnic in the future, congratulates them on the success of their first academic year and wishes them success on the commencement of their degree programmes.
