Major Retrospective PhD Dissertation Digitization programme begins in Israel
Divided line

Cambridge, United Kingdom, May 29, 2009 - ProQuest is pleased to announce that a major dissertation digitization programme has begun at the esteemed Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. This ambitious programme is one of the first large-scale retrospective digitization programmes in dissertations for ProQuest outside North America. Further initiatives are planned for 2009.

“We are pleased to bring this important scholarly material to researchers around the world” said Boe Horton, Senior Vice President of Research Solutions. “ProQuest and its UMI Dissertation Publishing programme is greatly expanding the number of international PhD dissertations and master’s theses based on requests from faculty and researchers, who operate in a global research environment.”

Professor Israel Bar Joseph, Vice President of Resource Development, said, “The doctoral dissertations awarded by the Weizmann Institute of Science represent a magnificent body of learning, essential to scientists and students throughout the world. We are pleased that ProQuest will disseminate these PhD Dissertations in a readily accessible international database.”

The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovet, Israel, is one of the world’s top-ranking multidisciplinary research institutions.  Noted for its wide-ranging exploration of the natural and exact sciences, the Institute is home to 2,600 scientists, students, technicians and supporting staff.  Institute research efforts include the search for new ways of fighting disease and hunger, examining leading questions in mathematics and computer science, probing the physics of matter and the universe, creating novel materials and developing new strategies for protecting the environment.

This digitization drive is part of ‘The ProQuest Digital Archiving and Access Programme’.  ProQuest’s Digital Archiving and Access Programme offers a full range of thesis and dissertation services, combining high quality publishing and digital and microform preservation.

Subscribers to ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text, which includes the majority of the world’s top academic libraries, will be provided with access to 1,350 retrospective PhD dissertations from the Weizmann Institute, in addition to 150 newly published PhD dissertations annually from 2009.
