Cambridge, UK, 02 January, 2007 - The Taiwan National Science Council (NSC) has selected Early English Books Online (EEBO) and Periodicals Archive Online (PAO) for a major national digital archives project. This deal represents a major milestone in commercial digital archive history in Asia. Special government funding was secured by the NSC to create this digital archives project to fulfil the increased demand for Humanities and Social Sciences research solutions. Dr. Chen, director-general of the National Science Council, said that this development “is a very important foundation for the future development of academic research and education. In 2007, all higher education institutions in Taiwan can access these databases. Databases won’t take any physical space with the benefits of low maintenance cost and easy access. It will greatly relieve the maintenance loading for each institution.” Databases were selected through a careful screening process, and informed by recommendations from professors across Taiwan. The national licence covers over 170 higher education universities, designated public libraries, and government-funded research institutions. ProQuest’s EEBO presents classic early English works as they appeared in their original format. The complete collection includes more than 125,000 titles beginning with the earliest printed works in the English language. PAO provides an online archive of digitised full-image journal articles. PAO offers complete backfiles of a growing body of journals from a wide range of publishers. If you would like further product information please e-mail marketing@proquest.co.uk.
