ProQuest chosen by new Italian biomedical library system to supply full-text scientific journals
Divided line

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom, 29th November, 2006 - ProQuest Information and Learning has been chosen by Bibliosan, the library system of Italian Biomedical Research Institutes, to supply full-text scientific journals to the top health care and veterinary research institutions in Italy. The leading Italian health institutes will now be able to access ProQuest content, including over 1000 full-text journals from different collections including ProQuest Medical Library, ProQuest Nursing Journals and ProQuest Psychology Journals.

Bibliosan chose ProQuest's products for its ongoing strength and commitment to developing health and medical content Journal content and coverage, embargo periods, technical integration, ease of use of the interface, local language interface and service levels also contributed to Bibliosan's choice of ProQuest for the agreement.

"ProQuest's product tradition is to provide the best access to the best content in every market segment it enters," said David "Skip" Prichard, president of ProQuest Information and Learning.  "Bibliosan's choice is an honor and a validation of our commitment to create a collection of highly respected and authoritative STM titles."

Bibliosan comprises ICCS (Scientific Institutes of Health Care), Istituti Zooprofilattici Sperimentali (Veterinarian Research Institutes), Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Institute of Health), Istituto Superiore Prevenzione e Sicurezza sul Lavoro (National Institute  for Health and Safety at Work) and Agenzia Servizi Sanitari Regionali (Coordinating Agency of Regional Health Services).  Prior to the creation of Bibliosan, the primary health care sector was lacking centralised, coordinated provision and dissemination of scientific information. The Italian national system significantly expands the quality and quantity of health and medical content for doctors, other allied health professionals and healthcare administrators working in the research and care institutions.

Dr Moreno Curti (Scientific Direction of IRCCS Policlinico S. Matteo, Pavia) and Dr Franco Toni (Director of the Library of National Institute of Health, Rome), members of Bibliosan Steering Committee commented, "We are extremely pleased that Bibliosan has entered a fully operational stage and to have found in ProQuest, and its distributor E.S. Burioni Ricerche Bibliografiche, a responsive partner. Bibliosan has achieved its goal to deliver wide range of international scientific content to Italian Biomedical Research Institutes, and we are very happy to have been able to include ProQuest resources."
