CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom, September 14, 2005 - ProQuest Information and Learning has been chosen to supply full-text
journals to health institutions across Norway through the Norwegian
Health Electronic Library. In a competitive tender, to the Norwegian Health Service Research Centre (Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services), ProQuest's ongoing strength and commitment to developing health and medical content was highlighted as the deciding factor in securing the national deal. Pricing, journal content and coverage, embargo periods, technical integration, ease of use of the interface and service levels also contributed to ProQuest clinching the agreement. ProQuest content, including over 1000 full-text journals from different collections including ProQuest Medical Library, ProQuest Nursing Journals and ProQuest Psychology Journals, will be made available to all Norwegian health institutions via an internet portal, a collaborative project between the Directorate for Health and Social Affairs and Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services. “Creating easier access to research information was a priority for Norway, and the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services wanted to offer access to the world's most important electronic journals,” said Simon Beale, Vice-President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development, International, at ProQuest. The national agreement with the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services comes hot on the heels of similar agreements with the NHS England and NHS Scotland. In fact, the Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services looks to model its electronic service to libraries across the country on the NHS. Until now, most hospitals had access to a variable number of journals and databases, but the primary health care sector has virtually no library services or reference databases. This national agreement will ensure greater access to health and medical content for the 15,000 doctors and 60,000 nurses and other allied health professionals and healthcare administrators that work in the Norwegian Health system.
