ProQuest and Fairfax alliance continues to strengthen
Backfiles to key Australian newspapers add wider research scope Divided line

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom, July 28, 2004 - The alliance between ProQuest Information and Learning and leading publisher John Fairfax Holdings Limited continues to strengthen with a further five-year backfile added to key newspaper titles in ANZ Newsstand from September 2004 .

This new agreement between ProQuest and Fairfax ensures end users have access to a comprehensive news source. In September 2003, ProQuest announced the addition of six Fairfax newspapers to its ProQuest Australia & New Zealand Newsstand online news service? The Sydney Morning Herald, The Sun Herald, The Age, Sunday Age, Illawarra Mercury and Newcastle Herald adding to the existing Fairfax New Zealand newspaper content already available within the collection. With the five-year backfile now being added in September, users will be able to search content commencing September 1996.

Launched in June 2003, ProQuest ANZ Newsstand combines local, national, business, sport, political, technology and entertainment news from key providers within the region, including News Ltd, Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and now Fairfax.

Roger Tritton, publisher for ProQuest said, “Our objective for ProQuest Australia & New Zealand Newsstand is to make it the most comprehensive news source in the region. With the extension of content offered from Fairfax Australia and its flagship titles, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, we believe we have taken a large step towards achieving this objective. We are pleased to be working with publishers within the region to provide services to the region, increasing the profile of Australia and New Zealand in world-wide resources.”

“The ProQuest Australia & New Zealand Newsstand advantage is that it allows users to access several key sources simultaneously by providing cross-searchability with other leading online resources from ProQuest including ABI/Inform and Academic Research Library.  This offers significant advantages to the librarian trying to provide their users with access to their preferred sources, and to users who need only navigate a single interface.”

ProQuest Australia & New Zealand Newsstand can be purchased on annual subscription and 30 day free trials can be arranged by contacting our ANZ sales office at sales@anz.proquest.com.
