ProQuest Information and Learning’s new online news service Divided line

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom, June 24, 2004 - The latest national and regional news from the UK 's most popular and influential newspapers is now available at the click of a mouse.

NewsUK is a new online service, from ProQuest Information and Learning, which provides the latest up-to-date information on world news and events as reported through the pages of the UK 's best known newspapers and magazines.

NewsUK is the first online newspaper collection specifically designed for public libraries and caters to all levels - professional researcher, student or current affairs enthusiast.

ProQuest's newest online news service is unique from other information resources because it offers the highest possible authority with all the main UK newspapers and publications - The Financial Times, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Observer and The Independent to name a few. Significant back files are available for each.

NewsUK is also a gateway to local news and commentary with a host of regional newspapers ranging from The Belfast Telegraph to The Daily Record, and from The Evening Standard to The Liverpool Echo; again with significant back files.  News journals such as Time and The Economist have also been included to offer an even greater range of opinion and information.

With NewsUK, information is instantly at hand with quick links to the latest headlines and regional news stories. Alternatively, users can search a specific topic, person, place or event of interest. For more defined research, News Topics pages combine specially commissioned overviews of hot topics with hand-picked articles, images and web links.

Subscribers can use the service for any number of applications: to look up reports on schools' performance; keep up to date with current business trends; follow the Stock Market share prices; read the latest book reviews; follow the latest political debates; discover the latest art exhibitions in and around the area, or even read travel guides about specific destinations in the UK or abroad. And they are able to do so anytime they wish, 24/7, thanks to NewsUK's remote access capabilities.

ìAs a company, we have a long and proud history of supplying the library community with newspaper archives. NewsUK is, therefore, a hugely exciting new development for us. It's the first online newspaper collection specifically designed for public libraries in the UK . As well as powerful searching across over eight million articles, the News Topics pages, with their very focused expert selections of articles, will be especially valuable for library users - particularly as they will all be available any time, any place through our simple-to-use remote access system,î said Tom Jackson, Senior Publisher, Reference and Schools.

NewsUK is cross-searchable with ProQuest's highly successful KnowUK online service if both products are subscribed to. This offers even greater research possibilities.
