CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom, January 8, 2004 - ProQuest Information and
Learning has launched Film Indexes Online, a new portal for subscribers
to Film Index International (FII) and the American Film
Institute Catalog (AFI Catalog). It was created in partnership
with two distinguished film research organizations, the British Film Institute
and the American Film Institute. Produced in collaboration with the British Film Institute, FII gives full international coverage of films and film personalities from over 170 countries, up to the present day. All eras of film-making are covered - from the early silent movies to recent box-office hits. Based on the British Film Institute’s Summary of Information on Film and Television (SIFT) database, FII is both inclusive and authoritative. AFI Catalog, compiled by film experts and researchers at the American Film Institute, presents a detailed view of American feature films produced during the last century up to 1970. AFI Catalog offers an unmatched level of detail, with full production and cast information, extensive plot summaries and production notes. In its latest release, new content and features include:
Film Indexes Online provides unparalleled, cross-searchable access to scholars and media professionals to help further their research in the film and entertainment industry, providing essential information on American and international films from over 170 countries since 1900. Since both indexes are updated on a twice-yearly basis, the portal reflects the most up-to-date film research available. Film Indexes Online can be used to cross-search both FII and AFI Catalog or to search the individual databases separately. The functionality in the site is straightforward and modeled on ProQuest’s German Literature Collections portal. Usage statistics will be available by resource or in total. FII and AFI Catalog will continue to be available as stand-alone products.
